He had warned her, he had warned her not to do so

He had repeatedly warned her not to do so

To Sati, what was meant to occur he said

He knew her father hated the one she wed

He knew she wouldn’t come, if she ever went

And that only his heart would remain to lament

Yet wasn’t it she, who was to blame?

Was it not for her, was she swallowed in flame?

She denied him, and she what had come

To her own actions did she succumb

She knew that Shiva knew it all

Yet into her own pit, did she fall

But what if he held her and asked her to stay?

Would the sun have dawned on such a day?

What if he shackled her, and did not let her go?

Would that have prevented her from leaving so?

But if he knew, why did he not stop it?

Why did he sit ajar and wait for time to hit?

And if he knew it, why is he grieving now?

Why is he grieving, for her unneeded love?

Before her was he, and after her is he

He knew he was one, to forever be

He would remain doing what he must do

Then why? Why is he dwelling in this blue?

Without asking him, his heart, did she find

And to Shiva’s logic, his heart paid no mind

So blindly did it follow her around

And in doing so, such pleasure he found

Of such emotions, Shiva had no need

Yet to those words, his heart paid no heed

In this path unknown, it is abandoned now

And to return to him, it does not know how

Even though he knew what was to come ahead

It still ached to fathom that she was dead

He was always prepared for what had to be

Yet for this gruesome pain, he wasn’t ready

As painful and painful his heart grew

He abandoned all that he must do

And as mayhem spread all around

Hell was the sky and hell was the ground

Unimaginable damages, the world bore

But his world was destroyed long before

This was one emotion, he couldn’t bear

And of the state of the world, he couldn’t care

Why was it so hard, to go back again?

To forget her and forget this pain

What was to come, he always knew

But this grief was one, so achingly new

Her from his heart, he couldn’t erase

But the truth was too gruesome to face

An escape to this, he couldn’t find

Hence, to all emotions, he went blind

He sat in a state, thoughtless and untrue

It was the only way to prevent his blue

And so from his heart, remained not even a piece

This was the only way to keep the world in peace
